Mermigans v Valkyries

This match turned out to be a war of attrition between two teams looking for their first win of the season in LNFA. Last Saturday, on a waterlogged pitch in Palézieux under the grey Vaud sky, the Mermigans–with players fro the clubs of Nyon, Monthey and Palézieux–had to fight until the very last minute against GC Zurich Valkyries.

It was the defences that dominated the match, with only one try per team until only a few minutes before the end. Neither side wanted to give any ground. It was the Mermigans’ scrum that finally made the difference. The pack pushed Zurich to the limit and over the try line until they finally folded. In the final minute, with a penalty advantage coming, the scrum pushed of the line to seal the win 12–11.

After three games, the Mermigans find themselves in third place with 6 points. The next game is on Saturday 15 October at 13h00 at the Stade de l’Athenaz in Avusy against the Entente CERN/Avusy.
